NIBS Worldwide Business Case Competition

The Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) organises case competitions since 1996, and this makes the NIBS case competition one of the oldest and most renowned undergraduate case competitions in the world.

A Qualifying Round is held in November, involving a written submission of a case solution prepared at teams’ home universities and evaluated by an expert panel. The top 16 finishers are invited to compete in the NIBS Championship Round in spring, held at a host school selected by the NIBS Board. First, 4 divisions are formed, the best 2 of which advance to the quarter-finals. This is followed by the semi-finals and the final. In this way a team always plays a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 matches. Over and above the unique learning opportunity and intense competition, Championship Round participants enjoy an unparalleled cultural and social experience that gives them the opportunity to develop their international network.

Locations have included Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Guatemala, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the UK, and the United States. All NIBS member institutions are eligible to enter the competition; Rotterdam University AS is a NIBS member.

NIBS Worldwide Business Plan Competition

The Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) organises the NIBS Worldwide Business Plan Competition since 2011. The competition aims to stimulate entrepreneurship among students. Teams are challenged to improve an already existing product or service, or to conceive of a new service or product offering. To reach this goal they must create a well-founded business plan and appealing pitch video aimed at convincing potential investors to support and finance the business.

Each year, the three best submissions are selected by a global jury of business professionals and academics to compete in the Final Round. The finalists are awarded cash prizes.

The competition is completely virtual. Deadline for the business plan and video submission is 1 March. The final presentation round is in May.

NIBS Worldwide Business Simulation Game

The Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) has just launched the NIBS Worldwide Business Simulation Game, in close cooperation with ECOSIM, a software company specialising in business simulations and student competitions. The competition starts at different times during the academic year.

The target group of this virtual competition are Business School students all over the world. They can take part in the competition in teams of 2-4 members. In the competition, the participants take on the role of the top management of a virtual company, with 3-5 close competitors in a simulated market.

After a test round a qualification round will follow. The best teams proceed to the next round, the semi-final. The last round is the final. Ideally, there is an online final for the best 10-12 teams of the semi-final, with live video login/stream of the welcome and award ceremony. The prizing is based on the total entry fee sum; part of the prize is a donation to an NGO selected by the awarded team.
